Jio 5G network speed test leaks, download speed up to 420Mbps

5G network rollout is the talk of the town as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has already announced that 5G network will be made available to the general public in 13 major cities of India before the end of 2022. Telecom operators have already started network testing across India, and the country’s leading telecom operator, Jio, has made remarkable progress in testing and planning for 5G network rollout. Jio will use the locally developed network, hardware and technology components to ensure the delivery of a strong 5G network. Now, a recent report suggests the 5G speeds achieved by Jio. Let’s look.

Jio 5G Network Speed Test Results

91mobiles was able to get its hands on a screenshot that displays the Jio 5G network speed test. According to the screenshot, the Jio 5G network was able to achieve a download speed of 420Mbps and an upload speed of 412Mbps. Latency, on the other hand, was 11ms and jitter was 9ms. Moreover, Jio’s 4G network speed was also visible in the screenshot. It can be seen that Jio has a download speed of 46.82 Mbps download and 25.31 upload speeds on its 4G network. This means that the telecom operator’s future 5G network will have eight times faster download speed and 15 times faster upload speed than its 4G network connectivity.

Testing was done on servers in Mumbai, and speed variations can be expected when the network is released to the public, as the screenshot is from a test program. The upload and download speed might actually be lower than that achieved in the test program due to the high number of active users. To compare, before the release of the 4G network in 2016, Jio was able to achieve speeds of around 135 Mbps during the testing phase, which was later reduced to around 25-30 Mbps when it was rolled out to the public.

It should be noted that the first telecommunications operator will roll out its 5G high-speed services in certain countries in phases. The company has already declared its partnership with social media messaging platform WhatsApp to provide simplified prepaid recharge options to customers. Other telecom operators – Airtel and Vodafone Idea are also expected to launch their 5G networks in India in late 2022 or early 2023.
